I worked with the Italian fashion brand Paul Taylor on their FW22 campaign, Paul Taylor Takes New York. The creative director, Fabiola Spano, wanted to place the brand right in the heart (the mess) of New York. The social cutdowns are available to view on Instagram – here, here, and here.

For this winter lineup of clothing, I wanted the atmosphere to feel more cozy than cold. I aimed to frame the model, Lucas, against warm-toned buildings and shoot into the low winter sun. There’s a really crisp feeling to the air around this time of year, and I wanted to evoke that feeling visually.

Fabiola asked to avoid the more traditional New York City tropes and instead favor the small details that define the city. I looked for small interactions, moments of chaos, and a little bit of oddity. To me, these are some of the signs of life that make the city hum.

The brand was flexible about how we shot the clothing. The emphasis was less on curated product photography, more about seeing the clothes in action. Lucas was always in motion, and I was always catching up to him. It was loads of fun to bring the documentary style to a more buttoned-up brand – trying to find that balance of scrappiness and polish.

The Italian crew arrived with an image of the city in their minds and a desire to see what else was out there. Thanks to Fabiola and the rest of the team for an excellent time running around the city.
